How will Construction need to change?
Featuring Gavin Donohue, President & CEO, Independent Power Producers of New York
Join the discussion with Gavin as he provides us with an overview of how New York States Climate Leadership & Community Protection Act will affect every business and homeowner with New York State’s aggressive new emissions standards. Mr. Donohue was appointed to the New York State Climate Action Council, a 22-member body currently being assembled under the recently-enacted New York State Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA).
Construction is an energy intensive industry and the business operations will be dramatically impacted as the new state law requires significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions. In 2017, greenhouse gas emissions from transportation accounted for about 28.9 percent of total U.S. greenhouse gas emissions, making it the largest contributor of U.S. greenhouse gas emissions.
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) will, through the adoption of regulations, drive an 85% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, with an interim mandate of 40% reduction in emissions by 2030 (both relative to 1990 levels). The new law requires net zero emissions in all sectors of the economy.
