8-Hour Qualified Rigger Course

Tuesday & Wednesday, January 16 & 17, 2018 – 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. (both days)

Moving large, heavy loads is crucial in today’s construction industry.  Overhead lifting is a special event and risk is created every time a load is lifted off the ground.  Rigging and lifting operations affect virtually all construction trades, and each load that requires rigging has unique properties that can range from the simple to the complex.  OSHA defines a qualified rigger as a person that possesses a recognized degree, certificate or professional standing, or has extensive knowledge, training and experience and can successfully demonstrate the ability to solve problems related to rigging loads.

This 8-hour course addresses the fundamentals of rigging.  It is designed for individuals involved in rigging and handling suspended loads in construction, manufacturing, utilities and various environments that must adhere to OSHA regulations.   The course will cover not only basic skills but also the more advanced.  By using audience response software that allow response and scoring of attendees throughout the course, audience participation is increased.  Specific areas to be covered include:

• Rigging Today (NYC Crane Collapse; OSHA Qualified Rigger and Qualified Signal Person Requirements)
• Rigging Practices (Sling Inspection Competition – hands-on; Effects of Angular Loading; Effects of Small D:d Ratio; Effects of Shock Loading)
• Evaluation of the Use of Rigging Gear
• Basic Rigging Plan
• Load Control
• Load Stability and Center of Gravity
• Rigging for Load Stability (hands-on)
• Finding the Weight of the Load (hands-on)
• Sling Tension Calculation (Sling Load Distribution – hands-on)
• Crosby Tools
